The plot of “50 Shades of Grey” centres on a young and naïve college student named Anastasia Steele who is seduced by a rich and powerful entrepreneur named Christian Grey.

Grey persuades Steele to sign a contract that allows him complete control over her life, in and out of the bedroom. Yet despite the fact that Steele becomes completely submissive to a very dominant man, feminists aren’t up in arms.

In fact, this is where the mommy bloggers and the feminist bloggers agree. Many traditionally feminist-minded writers are hailing the book for encouraging women to explore their sexuality.

A reviewer on the feminist-friendly website Jezebel wrote: “Our consensus: the book is pretty ridiculous — for every lashing there's an ‘OMG!’ — but if it's making more women feel comfortable discussing their sexuality, we're all for it.”

Reviews from Amazon:

Amazing. I normally only read when i am on holiday, but all my friends were raving about it, so i bought it and read it within 3 days! Its purely addicting and i couldn't put it down! Just ordered the next 2 and cant wait for them to arrive! Would definitely recommend this to anyone.
What a fantastic writer, not my usual genre of books (true crime normally) but I got dragged into W H Smiths at the airport to see people queuing up all with this book in their hands so naturally I downloaded the kindle version and read it within a day and had to find a wifi zone while on holiday to download the other 2 books which i read just as quick.

As previously mentioned in other reviews there seems to be a Marmite effect with these books, you will either love them or hate them.

I recommend you try them though and i guarantee you will be hooked.

Iv read all three books and found fifty shades of grey very boring, I had to keep reading though just to find out what was going to happen.
The third book fifty shades freed had the best plot and I think concluded very nicely. The book was very unbelievable but I did over all like it after it got going in the second book.
There is a lot of sex in the book and found my self skipping a bit of it out as it became very relative as if it had just been copied and pasted.

I've actually just finished reading the 3rd book (all 3 in six days!) for people giving it 1 star you were obviously looking for War and Peace or Dickens. For people who love chic lit or Jackie Coliins this book is for you. EL James wrote this after reading the twilight books and felt there wasn't enough sex in them and she makes up for it in Fifty Shades

The story revolves around Anastasia Steel and Christian Grey and how their relationship can develop despite their obvious differences. With other twists and unexpected events and plenty of ups and downs, they try to make it happen.

I'm not gonna rehash the story and belittle it like other reviewers. If you want light entertaining but gripping reading then this is for you. If you want heavy deep reading then it's not. For me it wasn't about the sex, although this is a fundamental part of the book but the story around it and that's why the book gets 5 stars. Christian Grey is dynamic, enigmatic, mysterious, sexy and troubled and you can't help wanting to know more. Perhaps the why isn't so evident in the first book but there is enough curiosity about him in this book to make you continue with the set.
If you love vampire stories like vampire diaries, twilight or the Sookie Stackhouse novels you'll appreciate the Christian Grey character. He's dangerous but addictive.

I know people who've read this more then once and having finished am tempted to again. I'm in my 30s with a PhD in psychology and Absolutely loved it!!
