Description:

Amy Winehouse’s bright star burned out on July 23 2011. Amy lived a rock-star lifestyle to the max, replacing an addiction to drugs with a battle against alcohol. When she died, aged 27, she joined a long list of musicians whose lives had been tragically cut short at the same age – the likes of Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain and Jim Morrison.

She burst onto the scene with her debut album, “Frank”, in 2003. But it was her follow-up, “Back To Black”, in 2006 that won her millions of fans right around the world.

She won five Grammy Awards for the album, which went six-times Platinum in the UK. Her chart success, though, would always be measured against a personal life full of trauma. She wrote “Back To Black” about Blake Fielder-Civil, who she married in 2007. But they spent little time together as a married couple as Blake was sent to prison.

Theirs was a stormy romance, and despite divorcing they would remain in love with each other until she died. There were always plenty of other men in Amy’s life, though. In the end she died alone in her bed. A bodyguard kept her protected from the outside world, but nobody could protect her from herself…

Reviews from Amazon:

Amy Winehouse's was always the centre of controversy, her death was no different. This book by Andy Morris examines her life - starting from her live rap group at a tender age of 10 to her meteoric rise to stardom with the release of her first album Frank and examines the trials and tribulations that lead to her untimely death at 27. A great read for those who want to understand more about a fantastic misunderstood singer.
----------
She was just getting started. Amy Winehouse, dead at 27, was only two albums into a career, and a life, which would be derailed by alcohol, drugs and bad choices.

The long, pathetic spectacle life of her, brought joy only to the jackals of the British tabloids, which sneered in big headlines at each new downturn. But her self-destruction was a deep loss to listeners. Ms. Winehouse was no manufactured pop commodity. She was a genuine musician, among the very small handful of British singers whose version of American soul music had a gutsiness and flair far beyond what could be studied.

And Andy Morris was able capture all of above that successfully. This would be a good buy, from a lesson to be learnt from life itself through Winehouse's life story.
----------
Someone dying as beloved as Amy Winehouse was is at times not easy to understand. Although I could let go and do away with some of her habits deep down I honestly believe she was a kind person and an inspiring performer. She influenced my musical tastes and I am glad there are well written books out there representing her like this one. At least I can find solace Andy Morris' recollection of the lost celebrities life.

A touching and informative look into Amy's world this Ebook "Open Book: The Life and Death of Amy Winehouse" provided me captivating highlights on the rise and fall of this international female sensation and one of my personal favourite voices. Regardless if you loved her or hated her the power and creativity she put into the music she produced is hard to deny. A global talent beyond her years it sure is hard to deal with why Amy Winehouse had to go at such a young age. I savour this book as to me it is one of those last sentiments that helps me keep her legacy alive in my mind.

With 3 + chapters dedicated to her final days and untimely death I am happy with this purchase as it is a great way for me to commemorate and remember such a talented artist. Maybe there is some truth to the Billy Joel song and "Only the Good Die Young".
